A Beginners Guide To Paving

Major Techniques that Can Help in Improving the Life of Your Pavement

One of the ways of maintaining your pavement is to apply seal coat. Seal coat is just a material that can be poured directly onto the surface of asphalt or concrete slab. By doing this it will make the pavement to be water resistant once it has come in contact with the surface. Try at all means to protect the pavement from water since it is not healthy for pavement life.

Apart from that you should stop using rock salt. It is advisable that you avoid using chemicals or substances that contain rock salt on the pavement especially during cold months. One thing with such substances is that they can melt through the ice very fast which in turn damages the asphalt layer since it is corrosive. There are some substances that when used will make the ice to melt and increase traction such as sand and kitty litter.

If you want your pavement to last you should clear it. Normally this is done to remove the dirt and debris off the pavement. If you want to know some of the things that do create problems to pavement is dirt and debris as they always block the drainage system making the water to stand still on the surface of the slab. With time this will cause the surface to break down over time allowing water into the sub base. This will make it to be soft and expose it to cracks and potholes. Therefore, it is important that you sweep the pavement regularly so that the dirt does not block the drainage.

Another thing that you should do is to fill the cracks. You should make sure that you fill the cracks immediately you notice them. By doing this you would have kept water and vegetation off the pavement making it to always remain dry, solid and strong. Another important point is that there are some wider cracks that require immediate filling but this should not prevent you from filling smaller cracks as they may also develop into bigger cracks at one point.

Another thing that you should do is to maintain the drainage. Make sure that there is no standing water on the pavement as it can result into tear and wear. This is because when there is proper drainage it will improve the life of your pavement by very many years. Therefore, you should check the drainage regularly to ensure that there is no blockage as this will help you in maintaining the internal structure of the drainage system.
